PORT Moresby Technical College administration presented K5,000, two pigs and food items to the Baruni villagers yesterday to say sorry for what the students did to the Baruni community on Friday.
Principal Henry Wamaingu with some teachers and student representatives presented the food items and the money to the youths and the villagers in the presence of the community leaders and police yesterday.
Wamaingu said the school since it was established in 1947, had not experienced any incidents of students fighting with the villagers from Baranui or Hanuabada but it was a first of its kinds that happened on Friday.
Baruni community leader Edward Collett and Wamaingu said it was alleged that the students were in their drop-off school bus near the village when someone threw a stone and hit the bus.

They said the students went into the village claiming to be attacked by the villagers and disturbed peace in the community.
Collett said the situation was tense during the weekend but he managed to talk with the police and the school administration agreed to apologise for what the students did in the village.
He said the community was a peaceful one and they had been taking care of the students and teachers since it was established.
He said the peace ceremony ended the matter that happened on Friday and anyone who caused problems going forward would be arrested and charged by the police.
Wamaingu said the school would resume classes today.
He said five weeks had been lost because of the state of emergency and they needed to make up for that to meet the requirements for the students to graduate.
He said they had to suspend classes on Monday and yesterday because of Friday’s incident.

  • Find out properly who’s at fault and if it’s the students then the school admin needs to terminate them. This is not the first time, there must be a strong stand on drinking and giving schools a bad name
