Great golf
Great to see Prime Minister James Marape and some of his Cabinet ministers – mostly those who play golf – enjoying a day at the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club on Friday. Perfect weather, great atmosphere, great camaradie and, most importantly, K126,000 was raised for the Australian Bush Fire Appeal. Someone suggested that more MPs should take up the sport, and more such fundraising tournaments involving them be held for worthwhile causes.
WHO target
World Health Organisation bosses in declaring the coronavirus a global health emergency is keeping a close watch on countries with relatively weak health systems. We may be on the list.
Masked plane
The picture of a big passenger airliner arriving from China last weekend went viral on social media because it had what looked like a respiratory mask wrapped around its nose. Making fun of a serious matter.
Anything for a mask
People including children are wearing on their heads plastic bottles as a protection against the coronavirus. One man was even wearing what looked like one half of a bra on his head.
Virus fear
The Corona beer stock at the bottle shop is not moving at all. Fear that it may be connected to the virus, though unproved, is keeping customers away. It sells for around K60 a pack.
Time flies
While some are still recovering from the New Year hangover, we are already into February. 10 or so more months to go to 2021. Time does really fly, doesn’t it?
