Come support us, say Stallions

THE Tusbab Stallions management is calling on football fans in Madang to head to the Laiwaden Oval on Saturday to show their support in round two of the National Soccer League Northern Conference.
Team manager Juanita Kalip Tawi described last weekend’s crowd attendance as minimal and encouraged more people to come out and watch the youngsters carry the flagship of the football-mad province.
Tawi said last weekend was like match practice for them as they didn’t have any trials leading up to the competition apart from training but eventually got the result in the end with a 1-0 win over Laiwaden FC.
“I think the boys defence was pretty good last weekend,” Tawi said.
“The only area I think they need to polish up is their attack.
“The boys had a lot of chances.
“I was counting and six clear chances were not converted by our strikers.
“Coach Rachel Wadunah has been working really hard with the team throughout this week.”
Meanwhile, Tawi says the Stallions are more than just a football club.
“That means to help players become productive young citizens of Madang,” she said.
“We’ve been having church engagements with various denominations.
“Last week, we visited the Assemblies of God and this week before the game, we will visit the Catholic Church in town.
“We believe that having these church engagement activities will help develop our young players spiritually and mentally to help them with their fitness.”
The Stallions’ participation in the NSL is also to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment.
“These are some of the principles we initiate and want to promote using our football club,” Tawi said.
“Although it’s a challenge, most of the boys in the club are used to working with myself and coach Wadunah at the member association level.”
