The PNG Electoral Commission (PNGEC) is keen to use electronic voter machines (EVM) following a government delegation’s fact-finding trip to India.
Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato met India’s chief election commissioner A K Joti in New Delhi last week and discussed election technologies, systems and other points of interest such as voter registration, voter verification, polling and counting.
Head of the delegation and Minister for National Planning Richard Maru reinforced PNG Electoral Commission’s interest in pursuing options in electoral training and technologies and welcomed the assistance offered by India’s chief election commissioner.
As an option to learn from and explore, Gamato expressed interest in the use of voter machines.
“We are keen to learn from the election commission of India in terms of technologies used in elections in India,” Gamato said.
