THE British High Commission in Papua New Guinea donated K44,000 to Life PNG Care to assist its mobile school programme.
The programme started in 2017, with three schools in Port Moresby, at Baruni Dump, Gerehu stage 7 and Erima.
Due to the challenges this year, only one school in Baruni was in operation. The funds will assist in providing education materials, children’s learning aids and fuel for the school bus. A total of 45 school students would benefit from this project while 65 more are currently not attending due to the Covid-19 concerns.
British High Commissioner Keith Scott visited Baruni Dump on Thursday, to witness how UK funding was helping provide this service.
Scott said: “Only by visiting the mobile school and speaking to the children and the Life PNG Care team could I appreciate how much this education service means to everyone. There is no better outlet for UK funding than to give vulnerable children the hope of a better future.”
