NATIONAL and Supreme Court Registrar Ian Augerea has complied with the direction of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (COI) into the Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS) loan deal by submitting evidence required, an official says.
COI chairman Sir Salamo Injia told the inquiry on Friday that Augerea had submitted the required information and would now wait for the overseas counsel and solicitors to work with him on preparing evidence.
“We may ask you to wait for the availability of counsel assisting the commission and the solicitors once they are admitted to practice and certified by the PNG Law Society,” Sir Salamo told Augerea.
“Then they will communicate with you and they will assist you to prepare your evidence that you will give to the commission.
“These records are being provided to enable the commission to brief the counsel and the solicitors to look at these documents and then they will sit with you.
“If there are some documents that are missing, they will communicate that with you for discussions.”
Sir Salamo urged Augerea to ensure that the application for admission of overseas counsel and solicitors filed by the lawyers to the National and Supreme Courts was given appropriate level of attention.
“I’m just complying with directions of the commission and I’ve produced all the information that they wanted,” Augerea said.
