Commission launches water plan

THE launch of Gerehu Nature Block 2020 project plan in the National Capital District (NCD) yesterday prioritises channelling water supply into the communities.
NCD settlement to suburb upgrade manager Vincent Pyati thanked the people for their initiative to make the proposal to the governor’s office.
“This is a technical work which will take time to implement because there are protocols to follow before we can bring in the basic services that are lacking in the community,” Pyati said.
“The problem you people have here (Nature Block) is road access.
“But since we have already discuss with landowners, there is an agreement that a portion of 20-meters of land will be granted for road access into the block,” he said.
“Our plan is to transform settlements into suburbs so there has to be a school, clinic, shops and a police station in this community, and these are what we are planning to do.
“Whatever we (city authorities) plan for this suburb will also be used collectively by neighbouring suburbs.
“We have already received your proposal for water so we will work to achieve that.”
Pyati said there were about 600,000 people living in settlements in the city and told the residents of Nature Block that the water supply project would take some time to implement.
The Nature Block community were once a victim of a demolition activity carried out by NCD at Rainbow Banana Block. Since then they were relocated by Governor Powes Parkop to a portion of land behind the Telikom compound.
Nature Block spokesperson Ikibe Tatabe said after their relocation since 2014, they had lived without access to basic services for about six years.
