A SPECIAL Ministerial Committee has been set up to coordinate Government’s efforts in response to the global emergency on the coronavirus.
Health Minister Jelta Wong told The National that the committee was headed by him and included Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Immigration and Border Security, Civil Aviation and Communication and Information Ministers.
“The committee includes all the relevant government departments so that we all can work together to protect the people of this country from the novel coronavirus,” Wong said.
“As you will notice Communication and Information Minister Timothy Masiu is part of the committee as we need him in this government effort to fight against the spread of fake information during this time.
“This special committee will be the only one that will be releasing information on government efforts so I call on the mainstream media, if you want answers to your questions, bring them to the committee.” Wong and his committee have made a submission to the NEC for a K10,000 funding.
The Health Department has also made a submission for K45,000.
Masiu also called on the mainstream media to report responsibly.
“We will start making brochures for the novel coronavirus to educate and inform the public and will also be making awareness through talkback shows on national and provincial radios,” he said.
“We are also planning to speak with The National and The Post Courier to place inserts in their newspapers of the coronavirus so that it reaches everyone.”
