INTERNAL Revenue Commission’s  commissioner-general Betty Palaso says she will look into a K10 million that should have been paid to East Sepik from GST.
She made the comment in parliament last Friday after East Sepik Governor Allan Bird said the province received only K1 million of the K10 million earmarked for it.
“East Sepik was supposed to have received K10 million this year. We only received less than K1 million,” Bird said.
“I would love to fund health services and schools myself but this (K10 million) constitutes a large part of internal revenue for East Sepik province.”
Palaso said: “By law, we are required to transfer the amount in the budget, so on the 21st day of each month we remit the funds faithfully.
“I’m surprised that the budgeted K10 million has not been remitted.
“I will check on that.”
The commission is responsible for administering income tax, goods and services tax
and stamp duties among others.
The taxes collected were deposited into a consolidated revenue account and the monies were used by the government to implement services.
