Gerari wants yeast banned

Yeast will be banned in Northern if provincial police commander Chief Inspector Lincoln Gerari has his ways.
He is seeking ways to keep it out of the province to stop or reduce increasing crime there.
Yeast is the main ingredient in homebrew and increased production and consumption of the booze have coincided with increase in criminal activities and problems in communities, Gerari said.
It has also led to fighting, injuries and even deaths, he said.
Gerari told The National that he would be working with the provincial authorities and business community to implement or enforce the ban of yeast.
“I’m planning to introduce ban on yeast because it is mixed with sugar to produce homebrew (eveka or basu),” he said.
“I’ll be carrying out the first awareness in primary and high schools after the election because there is lawless in the communities due to the increased production and consumption of homebrew.
“These two things are affecting the people and because of the young children involved, I want to talk to them to be fully aware to avoid these illegal drinks.
Gerari said he would be working with MPs to enforce the ban as the province had good leaders.
“This has been lacking, over the last 10 years the relationship between the leaders and the community was poor,” he said.
“Now that we have leaders who have pledged to stand together, they are making a way into bringing the people together.”
“I want to work with the leaders to make sure that people in the rural areas receive police service.
