POLICE will create a committee to strengthen the work of prosecutions and assess officers in investigating and reporting of cases, Prosecution Director Chief Supt Jimmy Onopia says.
Onopia said the committee would be created to identify appropriate alternatives in relation to the institution’s proceedings.
He said the committee would improve quality and management of case files, attendance of witnesses in court, improve the management and execution of warrant of arrest, management of criminal history records and build cases confidence.
Police prosecutors have suggested to form a committee to judge and assess the performance of the officers, monitor and evaluate, train the officers and to
decentralised it to Mamose, New Guinea Islands, Highlands and Southern.
“It will benefit others in 20 to 30 years’ time,” Onopia said.
He said the committee’s membership would come from the public prosecutors’ office, policy and planning, crimes office, human resource division and training division.
The committee would be announced on July 30.
