PLANS by the National Capital District Family and Sexual Violence Action Committee secretariat complements the gender-based violence (GBV) strategy (2016-2025), according to manager Ruth Beriso.
“The stages of the GBV strategy was explained by the Community Development deputy secretary,” Beriso said.
“What’s happening now is they are trying to pull out the implementation plan from the strategy itself. The implementation plan has to be costed before it is implemented throughout the provinces.
“It’s a national plan and so they are also having their challenges.
“They have to also look at the formation of putting all those mechanism in place to coordinate the national plan.
“So they are yet to come to that stage though the plan is endorsed by the National Executive Committee.”
National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop said the plan needed to be fast-tracked to address the increasing rate of gender-based violence.
“The prevalence of GBV is increasing. I believe it has come to a stage where we can say it’s an epidemic,” he said.
“It’s an emergency but (our response) is very poor. We have got to take action because if we don’t, it will become worse.”
