Communication vital in addressing violence: Official

THE best solution for youths to address gender-based violence and other issues is for them to communicate effectively and share their problems, United Nation Population Fund representative Marielle Sanders says.
“It is important for all of us to come together, create an equal world in Papua New Guinea that is a safer place for women,” she said.
“As long as women are not safe, men do not have the opportunity to realise their true potential either.”
Sanders said only through collaboration of individuals could a better future be secured.
“The issues can be rectified or overcome by improving the skills of youth to address problems in their communities,” she said at a four-day equal playing field youth leadership summit.
“We can learn from each other.
“Everyone should discover their skills and see what you are able to do and share this with different communities in the provinces.”
Some 30 participants from various youth associations attended the summit in the National Capital District.
Equal playing field chief executive officer Jacquie Joseph said youths would understand the causes and the consequences of different problems and find possible solutions.
“We want to create inter provincial network so youths from different provinces can know what is happening in different places and what they are doing,” she said.
“They share information and work together.”
The summit is being hosted in six provinces – East New Britain, East Sepik, Hela, Milne Bay, Morobe and Southern Highlands.
