Communities in Nawaeb benefit from hygiene programme

Main Stories

SOME villages, schools and healthcare facilities in Nawaeb, Morobe, have benefited through an open defecation-free programme under the “klinpla kominiti project” implemented by World Vision over the last few months.
The programme was co-funded by European Union and United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) and covers 200 communities, nine healthcare facilities and 50 schools in Labuta, Nabak and the Wain-Erap area.
The programme’s purpose was to change the behaviour of people in rural communities on how best they could have a safe and healthy community through open defecation free.
World Vision programme supervisor Kevin Inamu said the recipients of the programme were informed on how best they could keep their toilets and ablution blocks safe and clean.
The programme started in June last year.

  • “Klinim kominiti project” is not supposed to be a new concept. It is always there with our up-bringing. The colonial masters tried to force us to do that with ‘fines’ and ‘imprisonment’ through the local level govenment system. This system tried to force us do them. Those of us who were born during those times will remember. But if all of us see our community as our haven and take on the ownership to look after them to hand over to the other generation we would take responsibility ourselves and not to wait for outsiders to tell us what to do and how to them with their money. Our ancestors never waited for outside help to maintain order and cleanliness. Wake-up leaders and older generation!

  • Thank you Mr Mp for service delivery our basic aspect is to met the need of community through improve service delivery

  • People should not wait for others to do those basic things for them. I remember back in the 1970’s there were those ” komuniti wok bung or wok hygiene” every few weeks for all the villages in one area. Aid post orderlies or APOs as they were called took the lead. We did not need outside help. Basic hygiene like washing hands after using the toilet is common sense. Have our people become that lazy and ignorant? Village leaders wake up for your people instead of waiting for others to come and do something for you.

  • And where is the government services that we’ve voted for for the last 40 or so years,…….

Please people don’t be blind by the so call donors ….

    Peace all

  • Where is the money for Government services????? Now a donor agency is doing this for a little village only and stating the LLG name. We have people still drinking from rain water ever since and using busu river for laundry? Please government see and do something in helping your citizen.
