Communities need climate awareness

MANY communities in the Mamose region are yet to understand the core aspects of climate change adaption and mitigation, Morobe deputy administrator economic services Masayang Moat says.
Much of the information, policies and plans of climate change deal with national level that leaves provincial and districts uncertain – not knowing the real subject matter.
Opening a three-day workshop for the Mamose region green climate fund (GCF) and review of the Climate Change Management Act in Lae on Tuesday, Moat said: “Even the LLG presidents are unable to make policies in Tutumang because they do not know the core aspects of climate change.”
“We also will have an immense challenge with the Wafi-Golpu project.”
Climate Change Development Authority (CCDA) managing director Ruel Yamuna said it was important to balance economic growth in a sustainable approach, taking into account climate change issues.
Yamuna said the workshop was to ensure stakeholders, companies, churches and non-governmental organisations understood the process of how to access GCF to implement adaptation and mitigation.
Within the country, though good policies and plans are initiated but to actually enforce them is a challenge.
