THE Budua-Makana Community Association of Taurama Beach in Port Moresby has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with police from the Boroko Police Station on Saturday to address law and orders issues in the community.
Association chairman Stanley Wasi said the purpose of the MoU was to improve and maintain law and order in the community.
“This MoU is not intended to legally bind its party,” he said.
“However, it recognises mutual opportunities of interest, but, does not commit either party to any funding.”
Wasi said based on these collaborations, both parties agreed to establish a three-year shared agreement to enforce community policing which would engage youths and residents to take ownership and responsibility of good governance in their community.
“There is a need to set up a village court system in the community to address and deal with issues of domestic violence, thief, noise pollution and other social issues at the community that is paramount for the well-being of everyone,” he said.
