Community assist Buimo inmates

COMMUNITY representatives from East and West Taraka in ward six of the Lae urban local level government and Panamex Ltd yesterday stepped in to help inmates from their ward with hygiene items and clothes.
Their visit followed a call made by the Buimo Prison commander Supt Judy Tara seeking help from stakeholders and communities.
No visitation was allowed by the prison after a mass breakout early this year. With the Covid-19 state of emergency in effect, it further contributed to the lockdown.
East Taraka representative Mason Mai said inmates relied on their families to supply items such as toothbrush, toothpaste and soap during visiting hours but at present, all had been halted.
“I can say that in just a short period, we collected what we could to bring to the inmates,” Mai said. “It’s not much but hope that it would help you along the way and also do think of your friends from the districts and others who have no families.”
Panamex’s Simonta Hani said: “We are here to support your needs during this lockdown and the little we give will support you until the restrictions are uplifted.”
Supt Tara acknowledged the support from the East and West Taraka leaders and Panamex.
