Community leader’s effort hailed

Letters

On behalf of our people in Bogia and Angoram districts, I would like to commend and thank community leader Jeffery Dubun and his community.
They used their own equipment to clear the area near Banab and set up various river transport to assist our people and the community at large to across the river when the Banab Bridge collapsed recently.
Could Dubun do something about the unreasonable and excessive fees charged?
The public using the Banab Bridge was well aware of its deteriorating state, and more importantly, the weight restrictions on it due to its fragile state. I am very disappointed that the Bogia MP and his cronies found it still safe crossing it with a heavy load – trailer loaded with an excavator.
In do so, they failed miserably to observe the weight restriction on the bridge.
This is something that is so simple to follow and basically commonsense.
But they still got it wrong.
As a result the bridge collapsed.
The heavy earth-moving equipment was brought all the way from Lae.
Why didn’t the Bogia MP hire similar earth-moving equipment in Bogia?
We could have got more use and life out of the Banab Bridge until a new bridge was constructed.
Maybe the Bogia MP may consider fully funding the construction of a new two-lane Banab Bridge.
