Community thankful for classroom, staff houses

A community in Morehead of Western’s South–Fly recently celebrated the opening of a new classroom and staff houses.
Provincial education advisor Charlie Buia said the community welcomed governor Taboi Awi Yoto and local MP Sekie Agisa to the Morehead High School for the opening of a six-in-one classroom and two teachers’ houses.
He said these school infrastructures were jointly funded by the provincial government and the district development authority.
With these in place, Buia said this meant no more suspension of classes and other challenges as experienced in recent years.
In April of 2018, The National reported that the school’s grade 10s in that particular year had not sat their national examinations due to many pressing issues at the time.
Again in early 2019, there was another report by this paper regarding the official suspension of classes at the school by education authorities due to shortage in the number of teaching staff.
The Morehead High School had been faced with so many challenges in both 2018 and 2019, and the recent celebration of new infrastructures marked a new start for teachers and students in their journey in education.
