THE Komea community in the Nipa Rural local level government (LLG) in Southern Highlands are looking forward to the opening of a gravity-feed water supply project funded by the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
Last November, five community leaders from Porausi, Porakim, Porakipil, Porahor and Poraepelen clans in Komea wards one and two signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) to safeguard the gravity-feed water supply project that would benefit approximately 9,000 people.
Nipa-Kutubu district affairs officer and community leader, Felix Kindup, said since the signing of the MoA, there had been no issues and local youth had taken ownership of the project.
“We are grateful with ILO and the Japanese government who supported and funded this water supply project in response to the 2018 earthquake that damaged many of our drinking sources,” he said.
“To show our appreciation everyone in the community is taking care of the two dams, seven storage tanks, water supply pipe lines from the dams to all storage tanks and all tap outlets.”
