THE Port Moresby South Rugby League is aiming to field a team in the Digicel Cup in 2022, according to its president Brown Murema.
He said the Moresby South Blacks’ bid would be subject to the Papua New Guinea National Rugby League Competition criteria.
“We’ve been trying to tick all the boxes by having sanctioned programmes and competitions at our home ground,” Murema said.
“We just want to get our house organised and the opening of the stadium this month was the perfect start to our preparations.
“There is still be a lot of work ahead of us in preparing our bid.
“We will be using this time to make sure that we are ready.
“We have our women’s and Under-20 divisions, and a schools programme.
“The leagues in Port Moresby have a lot of talented players and there’s also a lot of talents from Motu-Koitabu.
“So it’s important to have a team represent these competitions.
“We have a venue that meets the standards of the game and we can deliver so that’s a huge bonus for us.
“But we also want to see our younger players get a shot in the big leagues.”
Murema said the teams competing in the suburban leagues and nearby village had helped in creating a large talent base for the electorate with the best players to join the Blacks.
