THE National Capital District Eastern Highlands Rugby League competition is set to return this year after a two-year absence with pre-season matches scheduled for next month, says president Benny Kene.
Kene told The National that due to financial constraints, the competition was unable to host its games in 2017 and last year. However, he confirmed that the 2019-2020 season was set.
“We have players and clubs from around the National Capital District who are interested and we are ready to host our games,” he said.
“Apart from Eastern Highlands teams in NCD, we also had teams from around the city, including a side from Koiari.
“I encourage youths to stay away from drugs and not get involved in fights because when hosting offseason games, we are taking away those bad influences and promoting good behaviours among them.”
He said only 24 teams would take part this season and stated that after teams have confirmed participation, they would decide on a venue for competition by this weekend.
Kene called on teams to register A-Grade and Under-20 teams. For more details, contact Kene on 74393128.
