THE Papua New Guinea Table Tennis Federation received K50,000 from two Chinese business houses in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Federation president George Shao and his deputy Rea Loi received a cheque for K30,000 from XYZ Construction (PNG) Ltd and another for K20,000 from the PNG Fujian Entrepreneurs Association Inc during the PNG Open Table Tennis Championships at Erima.
XYZ Construction director Wang Yu, pictured, and PNG Fujian Entrepreneurs Association president Yanshun Yan said they were committed and honoured to financially back table tennis in Port Moresby and throughout the country.
Yu, on behalf of the two firms, said it was exciting to see local talent playing table tennis.
“We are proud to be partners in the development of players using this funding. We will continue to support table tennis because it is a popular sport in China,” he said.
Loi said Chinese business houses in the National Capital District had been very supportive of the sport since Shao took over the reins.
“We have benefitted a lot from them,” Loi said.
“Our partnership and mutual understanding has given confidence to both the business community and the players to improve their level and standard in the sport.”
Shao said Chinese businesses and organisations saw table tennis as part of human development.
“We have gained their confidence,” he said.
“Their support towards table tennis has been continuing for more than three years now, which is good for the sport.”
