POLICE in Gulf have urged licenced companies in the province to seek security assistance when transporting large sums of money by road in and out of the province.
Gulf police commander Silva Sika was responding to the reported armed holdups along the Gulf and Central Highway targeting company vehicles.
“Companies which are operating here in Gulf that are licensed. Anyone moving around here doing business know that you are making large amounts of money or carrying money in the vehicle.
“If you feel that your security is important than you know it is our concern as well.” He urged the managers of those companies to at least notify police when moving huge amounts of money.
“I can assign some police officers to provide security. We can also be mobile to patrol the highway so it can be safe to travel back and forth.
“I do not wish to experience see the same scenario happening again. It is common sense as people would know you are carrying money and they will be observing you.
“Most of such robberies where we have another vehicle following a company truck to rob them off large sum of cash.”
