BARRICK Niugini Ltd has released K668,000 to subsidise flights by Mission Aviation Fellowship in Enga to deliver supplies in areas affected by last year’s earthquake.
Of the total, K494,000 will subside air fares for travel within Enga and K174,000 will assist agencies in the delivery of rehabilitation supplies to areas affected by the earthquake in Febuary. Todd Aebischer, country director of MAF PNG, has commended the funding, saying it was a great news for the new year.
The subsidy will reduce the travel cost for passengers in Enga.
Currently, MAF serves remote communities at Hewa, Iropena, Kairik, Kompiam, Labalama, Maramuni, Megau, Pyarulama, Rum, Yenkisa, and Yifki and Wapenamanda.
Aebischer said subsidy would be reflected in MAF’s fares to and from Engan airstrips from next month.
However, it said all of MAF’s other concession rates would continue to apply to school students and children.
