Company to back PRL club Gulf West

A COMPANY has pledged to support Port Moresby Rugby Football League club Gulf West with incentives and gear.
Bige Petroleum chief executive John Bige said the pledge was part of the company’s continued support to West as a feeder club of Digicel Cup franchise Gulf Isou.
He said more emphasis would be given to the women’s team along with weekly support for the club’s three sides.
“I will present the incentives to the best players every weekend,” Bige said.
Meanwhile, former national women’s team player Joanne Kuman said the initiative was the first of its kind for the club.
“The company’s support is greatly appreciated because not many sponsors come to check on players and talk to them,” the one-time Papua New Guinea Orchid said.
“There are a lot of untapped talents in the club and this is type of backing that will help expose them.”
Kuman is the captain and stand-in West coach for the women’s team.
She is supported by Orchid Elvina Aaron and national sevens rugby union representatives Fatima Rama, Taiva Lavai and Helen Abau.
Club president Bob Ako thanked Bige for his continued support despite the tough economic times amid the Coronavirus pandemic.
He said the support would motivate players to perform to the best of their abilities in a bid to reach the finals of the Under-20, women’s and men’s divisions.
