MOROBE’S Bulolo Rugby League has paid more than K20,000 of this year’s player registration fees to Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL), according to an official.
PNGRFL Northern Confederation director Robin Iveke acknowledged the efforts of the Bulolo league administration, its clubs, officials and players in paying their registration fees — K20,650 in total — this month.
“It is always the major leagues like Madang and Lae that pay registration fees in access of K20,000 and I’m pleased that Bulolo league has paid this much,” he told The National yesterday.
“Bulolo league president Paul Tini reported that their competition was running in 2020 and continued into this year.”
Iveke said the Bulolo league had eight clubs that were competing in the Under-20, women’s and men’s divisions.
The clubs are NHC Westbulls, Forestry Raiders, NC Dragons, Nokondis, Bears, Bulolo Royals, Karanas Bullets and Watut West.
The competition has completed 14 rounds of the season so far with Westbulls sitting atop the ladder in the men’s division. In the U20s, the Dragons lead the division with 17 points followed by Bears (16) and Bullets (15).
In the women’s division, Forestry Raiders lead with 19 points followed by Bears (18), Nokondis (13) and Dragons (13).
Iveke acknowledged the support of the provincial government, district Administration, PNG Forest Products, PNG Forest Authority and other backers of the Bulolo league.
He urged them to continue supporting the competition and use it as a platform to help address social and law order issues in Bulolo.
“The Bululo league is now set to field three teams (U20s, women and men) in the confederation trials later this year,” Iveke said.
