Compensation for what?

Letters

I APPLAUD the community leaders who have given their customary land for the construction of schools, health centres, district headquarters, churches and lighthouses, even though they were not paid for it.
As a result of their sincere heart, their children or people in their community have been blessed with good jobs.
It is interesting that now many people are claiming compensation from the government for the public building or facility on their land.
They want the government to pay for the service in their community. This is immoral.
It is not right to claim compensation for the things which have provided light when we were in the dark and helped bring us to where we are now.
I believe claiming compensation on the soil where a school or lighthouse is located is just like beating the dog that hunted for us.
PNG, it’s time to rise up and do something tangible which can bring happiness in life rather than living a culture based on claims and compensation.
