Letters

VERYONE will have stories to tell, and whether it is a failure or a success story, the fact is that we can make things happen.
I was passionately moved when reading a story in the People’s page of The National of a youth from Madang by the name of Thomas Dedmai who attends Divine Word University.
It happened that his parents died when he was a child, leaving him destitute.
Thomas went through hardship, collecting rubbish round town to road maintenance and other dirty work just to earn enough to pay for his school fees, starting from grade 3 onwards.
Now he is doing his second year in a tourism and hospitality course at Divine Word University.
He still faces challenges but he believes that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
He is an example to youths and children that hard work pays and you don’t have to end up on the street just because life has been hard on you.
Young people should develop a positive attitude to help themselves reach their goals.
The 22-year-old youth has adopted positive approaches to overcome hardships and he is heading towards a better future.
Parents and guardians should put in place appropriate measures to mentor and counsel their young to find pathways for a better life.
Thomas, you are a champion.
