Concern raised over corruption prevention

THE Government should create policies and laws that can minimise or prevent corruption and take a strong position to deal with it.
Evangelical Lutheran Church of PNG (ELCPNG) Head Bishop, Rev Dr Jack Urame said anyone found guilty of corruption needed to be adequately punished. “Tough penalties should be imposed on them (offenders) to teach others that corruption has no place in our society,” he said.
“Fighting corruption should not be seen as the task of the government only. The churches should also speak against corruption because it is a form of stealing. God’s commandment forbids stealing in all forms.
“The churches have a moral responsibility to the nation to respond to the evil of corruption.
“They have the prophetic voice of God so they should speak against this evil.”
