Concern raised over theft

PEOPLE stealing from their employers are like stealing from their own gardens, says a magistrate.
Mt Hagen District Court Senior Magistrate Betty Jacob told two former employees of Sia & Sia Trading in Mt Hagen that their employer needed to make money to pay their wages.
“When you steal from your own garden and when the food runs out, you will go hungry because there is no more food left,” she said.
“This is same like stealing from your employer.”
Wari Kay, from Karanas village in Ialibu, and Rosze Ronny of Yagen village in Mendi-Munihu, Southern Highlands, allegedly stole six cartons of biscuits costing K30 each on Jan 12. Police alleged that their supervisor caught them.
The shop owner lodged a complaint with police.
Kay denied that he was involved and that Ronny had asked him to accompany him to carry the cartons.
“I was afraid there were too many people around and Ronny went in and brought the cartons out. Our supervisor saw us and got the cartons back,” Kay said.
Ronny was fined K300 and Kay K100.
Magistrate Jacob told them that they had spoilt their opportunity of making their way up the company.
“You two decided to steal while many are looking for jobs.”
