THE Papua New Guinea Teachers Association’s (PNGTA) Highlands regional office is calling on the Government to look into the Ganim report to fix teachers’ issues concerning their leave fares, appointments and salaries.
PNGTA Highlands regional secretary John Melson raise this concern last Tuesday after claiming to have the support of the region’s seven presidents.
He said that the Ganim report was tabled in parliament in 2014 for the Government to address the issues but to this date nothing had been done.
Melson said that the Ganim report talked about teachers leave fares, wages, appointments and welfare and other issues concerning their careers.
“How can we preach about quality education when teacher’s issues are not addressed properly?” Melson asked.
He said that teachers were professionals who are committed to serving the Government and educating the nation.
Melson said there were many issues that needed to be ironed out to protect their careers.
