THE Northern Conference of the Women’s National Soccer League will resume tomorrow in a double-round weekend after a recess during the festive season.
All eight clubs will be looking to resume their campaigns on a positive note as they look to finish in the top-two ahead of the finals.
After round four, Poro (12 points) sit atop the conference ladder with four-straight wins followed by Bara (10), Sepik (7), Markham Raings (5), Tusbab Laidamon (4), Morobe Tulip (4), Pacific Gardens (3) and Rainy Lae (0).
The top-six goal scorers of the conference sees Papua New Guinea international and Poro striker Meagan Gunemba leading with 13 goals followed by Sepik Sharlyn Jigi (9), Bara’s Charlie Banzelk (7), Poro’s Daisy Tokolik (4), Rainy Lae’s Michelyn Handengao (4) and Poro’s Judith Gunemba (3).
Round five tomorrow will see Rainy Lae look to record their first win of the season against Markham Raings in the opening game at Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium (9am kick-off).
Pacific Gardens, of Eastern Highlands, will battle Sepik in the second game of the day (11am). With two wins and a draw, Sepik will want a victory to keep pace with the top-two sides, Poro and Bara.
The third match of the day will be the top-of-the-table clash between leaders Poro and Bara (1pm).
Separated by two points, both teams will be looking to make the most of their opportunities on goal.
To end the round, visitors Tusbab Laidamon will face Morobe Tulip (3pm).
Round six on Sunday will be played at the PNG Football Association Academy at 11-Mile outside Lae.
