Transfer window re-scheduled

THE Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) has re-scheduled the dates of the second Women’s National Soccer League (WNSL) transfer window to between Jan 24 and 28.
The sport’s national governing body said in a statement yesterday that the new dates were in compliance with WNSL regulations.
PNGFA competitions director Paul Isorua said the change was made after assessing the concerns of franchise owners over the timing of the window.
He said the initial Jan 1-8 window was still in the middle of the first leg of regular matches.
Isorua admitted that there was a miscalculation when initially scheduling the window.
However, this has now changed from the first to the last week of the month for the following reasons:
The timing serves as an advantage for the teams to work with and assess their players before making decisions on transfers; and,
Since the WNSL is being revived, players who are registered with affiliated member associations and affiliates but not named in the initial squad list due to genuine reasons may be included during the window.
PNGFA general secretary Pius Letenge commended Isorua for rescheduling the window to give some relief to franchises.
Meanwhile, the Northern Conference will resume this weekend.
It will be a double-round weekend for the conference before the Port Moresby franchises resume their campaigns next Saturday.
