Congratulations to all our achievers

Sports

Hello to all our SP Hunters families and friends. Welcome to this 9th edition of Coach’s Corner in your favourite newspaper – The National.
Our trainer Mong Tavol was invited by The National staff to pick a winner in the “Liklik National Draw your favourite Hunter” competition.
There were hundreds of entries and it was a difficult task.
There were drawings of past Hunters players like Willie Minoga, Justin Olam and Watson Boas as well as many of our current crop of players.
It is heart-warming to know that students as young as 12 follow the players and the team.
This is encouraging and shows that players and staff at this level are role models.
At the time of writing this, the winner was still being determined. Congratulations to him or her.
The winner will do the coin toss before the game and will meet his/her favourite player after the game and presented a signed ball and team poster.
To all the others that missed out, I’m sure you will get another opportunity. Keep supporting us.
I thank The National for this competition for our children.
James Segeyaro made it into the Brisbane Broncos side and scored the winning try on debut last Friday. Well done.
Our two other Kumuls — Nene Macdonald and Lachlan Lam are out with injuries.
Next week, I’ll update you on our preparations for the Pacific Test in Sydney next month.
Nixon Putt is leading his Norths Devils side by example and was named co-captain this week.
Well done Nixon.
Kudos to Max Topani on his appointment as a touch judge in our game against South Logan Magpies on Sunday.
Hanua Rupa is the fourth match official and is on standby in case the referee or one of the touch judges is unavailable. Well done to you both and keep it up.
Roderick Puname has been helping us out over the past few weeks.
I will also be inviting other coaches to assist and gain experience in the coming months.
An official announcement on the assistant coach replacing Nigel Hukula will be made by the PNGRFL board in the coming days.
A big thanks to Stanley Gene for helping out the past two weeks while here in Port Moresby.
Stan brought gear from England donated by clubs and friends and fans for late Kato Ottio and presented them to his mum Joyce at Tatana.
Thank you to all of them and the Stanley Gene Foundation for fulfilling Kato’s wish.
On behalf of all the coaches and players around PNG and overseas, I congratulate Don Fox on being awarded life membership of PNGRFL.
He thoroughly deserves this recognition for his enormous contribution to rugby league from local clubs to the Kumuls. Thank you Don.
Some of our players attended the Voice Against Violence workshop at the National Library yesterday.
There is no room for violence in families, communities and in rugby league or any other sport.
Say No to violence of any kind in our country. Thank you to NRL – PNG in partnership with the US Embassy and Family Sexual Violence Action committee for this.
We have made some changes for this Sunday’s home game which you will have all heard and read through the media.
We are almost half way through the season and we are in a rough patch and not where we want to be on the ladder.
Continue supporting us as only we strive to get out of this situation.
Keep sending your comments — good and bad — to the Hunters Forum on email: [email protected].

We take note and value them.

Until next week, play safe, play fair and play hard.

Cheers Mikez
