THE Poini congregation of Emmanuel United Church in Porebada, Central, opened a new pastor’s house last Saturday.
The house was built at a cost of K130,000.
Bishop of West Central, Reverend Hitolo Kerry Arua, senior church pastors, executives of the church and the major sponsor of the house Igo Baru witnessed the opening ceremony.
Congregation chairman Morea Lohia said the construction of the house began last year.
“As believers and followers of the Lord, it is our Christian duty to ensure that those who spread his word are well taken care of,” he said.
“They should be given the protection, security and conducive accommodation to encourage them in their mission to spread the Word of God.” Lohia said it took them a year to complete the house because they had so much support from members of the church and sponsors which enabled them to work together to achieve their goal of building a house for their pastor.
“The house would not be completed without the support of all our fellowship members, sponsors and the builder’s commitment.”
He thanked the major sponsor Igo Baru and his family and the congregation for their participation towards fundraising drives.
The new house would be used by church pastor Henry Tali.
The Poini congregation was one out of the four in Porebada that had opened its pastor’s house.
