LAE Football Association (LFA) president Roy Kamen and his executives will remain in office for another term after the majority of the congress agreed to retain them due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The LFA constitution states that “the column for the ordinary meeting is simple majority”.
Kamen’s executives are senior vice-president Andrew Nirik, junior vice-president Aaron Mugaliong, treasurer Carlton Kohou and general secretary Franco Nebas.
Kamen told The National that their three-year term had expired last year.
“There was no meeting at the end of last year, so we brought it forward to this year,” he said.
“We did not hold an election due to some clubs being disqualified.
“There were clubs that left LFA and joined another association before deciding to return.
“The congress made a decision that they should pay a fine before taking part in any LFA activities.
“Only one club made an attempt to pay and that’s Eriku Wawens.
“For Bugandi, being an institution, we allowed them to come and play because they were students and our future footballers.
“For the sake of football, we allowed them to play while LBC Esso and Panamex never paid their fine and were disqualified.
“So there was no election and the congress moved the motion for another term.” Kamen said their retention was because of Covid-19 as there were no football activities last year and the year was not counted as a full term.
Moreover, he said the election of the new executives had been moved to the end of the year.
“We are looking forward to a good season and the Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) has been good to us,” Kamen said.
