LOCAL business communities and individuals should start gearing up for the 2015 Pacific Games and take advantage of the opportunity by engaging in income generating activities.

Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce and Industry (POMCCI) chief executive officer David Conn said this during the launching of a financial skills programme in Port Moresby yesterday.

The CPL-sponsored programme will be rolled out throughout the National Capital District and aimed to provide basic financial literacy for people interested in starting small business activities.

Conn said PNG would host more than 4,000 athletes during the games and the business sector should make use of opportunities presented by the sporting event.

He added that there were other opportunities which locals could turn into business activities.

“Business is about building things up, don’t run to donors. The 2015 Games will provide business venue for you. What sort of business opportunity do you want … take advantage of the 2015 Games. We need 10, 000 volunteers as ushers, escorts and also people who have artefacts to sell to visitors,” Conn said.
