Consider students’ reasons for late registration: Kombra

EDUCATION secretary Dr Uke Kombra says Balob Teachers College administration in Lae should deal with students’ late registration case by case instead of telling them all to withdraw.
He said the administration should have time available for them and deal with each case individually to verify their reasons.
“Some of those students may have genuine reasons to have come late for the dates of registration,” Kombra said.
He said these after 39 second and third year students were told by Balob administration to withdraw and come back next year to register as they had come after the registration dealine.
Balob Teachers’ College principal Jerry Hendingo said the administration was exercising the rules and regulations set pertaining to registration and the college’s academic policies.
Kombra said Balob’s decision to reject late students was clear but the college needed to allow the students to explain why they had come late and then decide whether to accept them, especially the genuine ones.
“Fairness should be given to students coming from all regions and not to make unfair decisions that will affect some students while others go through,” he said.

  • Academic Programmes are delayed due to late arrivals and early departures. Should this be entertained, they will be worse when they graduate and get out there in the field. Late resumption of duties and early departures from duties are common all over, where does discipline begin? Continue to entertain excuses ….I guess
