‘Magician’ faces rape charges after tricking girl

A MAN who claimed to have magical powers to resolve broken marriages was arrested and charged with one count of rape by the Kokopo police in East New Britain recently.
ENB police commander Sr Insp Joseph Tabali said the incident occurred at midday on Feb 13, at Vunamami ward one in the Kokopo-Vunamami urban local level government in Kokopo.
The suspect, Solomon Bill, 30, from Lambom, East Namatanai in New Ireland claimed he could perform rituals to resolve family problems.
Tabali said Bill approached the female victim, 20, whose parents had been separated for a long time.
Tabali said Bill tricked the victim by promising that he could bring her parents together.
“The suspect collected three roots from the different plants and he mixed the roots together with the lime and later he rubbed the mixture onto the victim’s body from her head, to her breast and down to her private parts,” he said.
Bill allegedly took the victim to the valley and forcefully removed her clothes and raped her.
The matter was reported to the police and the suspect was arrested. He would appear for mention at the Kokopo District Court today.
A medical report confirmed the victim had been sexually penetrated.
