Constituencies racing against time for nominations

 WITH just 24 hours left for the closure of nominations for the Bougainville by-elections, the Lule constituency in Buin, South Bougainville, is leading in the numbers game.

It has nine candidates lining up, bringing the total to 32.

The Lule constituency has the only female candidate nominated.

She is Isabel Beta.

A Catholic priest, Joseph Nabuai, has been nominated for Lule.

The Rau seat, in Wakunai, has eight candidates vying for the seat left vacant by the death of Joseph Egilio.

The Peit constituency has nominated seven candidates, while the Hagogohe constituency on Buka Island has named six and Kongara has just two candidates.

Nominations for candidates will close at 4pm today.
