Constituents putting skills into good use

Business

Taulil ward one in Gazelle’s Toma-Vunadidir local level government (LLG), East New Britain (ENB), has put to use skills and knowledge acquired from training by the Kokonas Indastri Korporesen (KIK) to form a business.
Ward member Laon Palangat said the training included the coconut downstream processing and was facilitated by KIK through its ward development committee and council of women committee.
Palangat said after the training, participants worked together to produce coconut products such as coconut cookies, virgin coconut oil, turmeric oil, coconut soap and other coconut products.
“We want to start this at the ward level because we see this as an opportunity for us to keep the youths busy and keep them out of trouble and also for them to be able to earn a little income from the coconut products they produce,” he said.
Palangat said the business was selling its virgin coconut oil from K10 to K15, cookies were K2.50 a pack, a bar of soap was K2 and a bottle of coconut turmeric oil was selling from K10 to K15.
