A BUSINESS group in Wosera Gawi, East Sepik, has received K150,000 from the European Union (EU) for the development of agriculture in the area.
The Kratia Cooperative Society business group is a business arm of the Moundu ward development committee.
It received K150,000 on Sunday during a smart cocoa programme opening at Moundu village.
EU delegate Brian Nakrakundi said K30,000 was for the extension of the cocoa nursery and K120,000 was for three solar kits.
“The funding will be in phases,” he said.
“The EU will still (continue) to support the Kratia cooperative society business group until you export your cocoa overseas.”
Nakrakundi told the group’s executives to lead the organisation with honesty and transparency and that all members must work together.
Kratia chairman Jude Kamblapui thanked the EU for the funding which would be used to develop cocoa.
The Kratia business group, since becoming a cooperative society, is developing agriculture particularly cocoa since the cocoa pod borer disease had affected the livelihoods of many farmers.
