PRIVATE contractors engaged by the government to carry out development work should perform honestly and produce high quality results, Morobe acting provincial administrator Geowing Bilong said.
Bilong, the acting provincial administrator, made the call last Thursday in Lae when presenting K500,000 to Minziong Ltd, the contractor engaged to build the highway connecting Nawaeb to Finschhafen.
Bilong said project management had always been poor and the provincial government now wanted improvements.
He said they would demand honesty in the implementation of projects.
Bilong said if achieved, it would improve the standard of living in rural areas.
“There have been so many short-term contracts, we should now generate long-term contracts,” he said.
He said that would encourage and give confidence to contractors.
Morobe deputy governor Morokoi Gaiwata confirmed that the contract to Minziong Ltd was for five years.
