MOROBE provincial works chairman and Wain-Erap president Charlie Foike is urging the Lae city council health and sanitation division to remove a piggery at Nine-Mile.
“This piggery sends out stench to the travelling public along the highway, nearby companies and settlers. It is unhygienic and unhealthy and city authority needs to do something about this immediately,” Foike said.
Foike lives at the local level government station at Erap and travels daily to Lae city.
The owner of the piggery runs a waste management company that disposes of sewerage from septic tanks.
“The city is expanding along the highway and we, the people who travel in and out daily using this highway, have to put up with stink. The piggery portrays a bad image,” he said.
“I am not saying he stop his piggery business but please relocate to new area away from people and public highway where he can build a proper shelter to cater for his animals.”
Foike urge the provincial government and city authorities to set in place a proper road map or plan for the extension of city along the highway to avoid such unhealthy issues.
