A CASE concerning the robbery of a trade store in Port Moresby on Saturday allegedly committed by police will be investigated, says Asst Commof Police Anthony Wagambie.
A shop owner at Korobosea, Port Moresby, posted on Facebook stating that goods including liquor and over K2,000 in cash was allegedly stolen by a group of policemen.
The shop owner said a complaint was laid at Badili Police Station.
ACP Wagambie said zone one commander Chief Insp Fred Tundu was tasked to get more details from policemen allegedly involved in the incident.
“We ask for the person who posted to get the shop owner to report to Chief Insp Fred Tundu to ensure that if the allegations are true, action will be taken,” ACP Wagambie said.
He said internal investigations unit, based at Boroko, would gather statements once they made contact with the trade store owner.
“Police work is dealing with human beings,” he said.
“In the process there are bound to be allegations.
“Some are true and some may not be true, as a means to cover up wrong doing as is the case with some Facebook posts in recent times.
“People post and then do not come forward with real information.
“So for this purpose and others that have been posted and will be posted in future, we will attempt to make contact with the poster.
“The poster can inbox the NCD/Central Command FB page so that the admin will make contact.
“We are focused in rebuilding the reputation of the constabulary.”
