THE Bougainville Pharmacy Ltd (BPL) has been given the green light to continue the medical drug procurement and distribution contract in South Bougainville, according to the company.
In a statement, the company said the South Bougainville development authority (DDA) was impressed with the company’s performance in procuring and distributing drugs to 21 health facilities in the district and approved the company’s proposal to continue to procure and distribute medical drugs.
It said the contract would cover the remaining 44 health facilities at the cost of K900,000.
Following the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak, BPL was engaged at the cost of K400,000 by the DDA towards the end of last year, to source and procure medical drugs to be distributed to rural health facilities in a move to ensure rural-based health facilities were equipped to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic and other illnesses at the doorsteps.
BPL principal Rayleen Soli tabled a report at the DDA meeting in Buin which highlighted the reaction of both health workers and the people to being able to have drugs at their doorstep for the first time.
Soli said the project included procurement of equipment requested by health facilities.
The drugs were of high quality and procured from sources other than Borneo.
