Cops commended for peaceful election

POLICE engaged in the recent Menyama by-election have been praised for making it safe and successful.
Officer-in-charge of the Lae police sector response unit Sgt Lukie Kavon, said most of the officers operated within the borders of the Lae metropolitan command and welcomed the opportunity to participate in the election.
“The experience gave them a feel of how elections were conducted in rural areas and how police provided security during major events,” he said.
Operations commander Chief Insp John Daviaga also thanked the officers for their good conduct.
New MP Benjamin Philip added his thanks to the police for ensuring a safe election.
“I commend them for a great job done,” he said.
They have indeed demonstrated a great deal of good policing.”
Returning officer Nande Awape said the good work of the police saw the successful conduct of the election.
