POLICE in East Sepik are looking for a suspect who allegedly killed a man in a canoe on the April River early this month.
Provincial police commander Albert Beli said the suspect attacked the man in a canoe on Jan 1 at about 10am after chasing him in a motor boat near Bukabula village in Ambunti district.
Beli said the men had an argument at Niksek village before one left in his canoe and paddled downriver.
“The suspect followed him in his motor boat and caught up with him,” he said.
“The suspect attacked him with an axe and chopped off his right arm. Other villagers saw (what was happening) and went out (to help the man reach land).
The man died at the Boram General Hospital in Wewak on Jan 4.
Beli called on the suspect’s relatives not to habour him but turn him over to police.
“Everyone knows one another in the district,” he said.
In another incident, Beli said a woman was stabbed in the workshop of the Turubu oil palm last Friday evening.
She is recovering at the Boram General Hospital.
Also recovering in hospital is a man allegedly shot at Kwarib camp in Wewak.
Police are investigating.
