POLICE and soldiers in Hela will be sent to Wanapika village to arrest the men who chopped off the fingers of a woman they had accused of pracitising sorcery.
They blamed mother-of-one Helen Mark, 36, for the death of her half-brother.
She is now recovering at the Tari General Hospital from injuries she received on her fingers, head, neck, knee and ribs.
Police commander Teddy Agwi who visited Mark in hospital said the case was being dealt with by the criminal investigation division.
She is now fearing for her life because her attackers who thought she had died were now waiting for her to leave hospital.
Agwi said the village was in a remote area towards the border with East Sepik and he would talk to the provincial government and administration on how best to deal with the case.
“I have some policemen on the ground at Koroba and I will seek the assistance of the soldiers at Koroba to go and bring the suspects,” he said.
“At this point in time, I do not have the full story of what happened.
“But I visited the woman at the hospital and heard her side of the story.”
